Review of Tiburon (Reviewer #2)

Ease of use:
Tiburon has come very far since the first beta was released in the Underground, but that doesn't mean it's gotten more complex. As with Elyse, Status kept this one as simple as possible, and his minimalistic approach always keeps the end user in mind. All the buttons are clearly placed and functions, and nothing seems to be hidden.
Rating: 5 / 5
Features:
This skin has everything you could ask for from an end user perspective. A great playlist, minimode, and more customization options than any skin to date. Two things I would have liked to see added are tabbed multiple playlists and eq presets. Although, it is understandable why these weren't added, as Team Sonique has yet to provide standards for preset eq levels, and there are too many bugs to do a multiple playlist feature at this time. But lets get back to the playlist. This is one of the most groundbreaking features in this skin. Even when it's hugged against the side of your screen, you have access to all the major function buttons. And when it's retracted, there really isn't anything you can't do other than watch visuals.
Rating: 5 / 5
Look & Graphics:
Have you ever skinned a skin? Well get ready to. Status has built in the ability to change the chassis as well as the wallpaper in Tiburon. I can't wait to see what chassis skins he'll release in the future. Since the skin itself is so flexible graphically, it gives the user the ability to update the look of their favorite skin, without having to compromise on features. The default look is very smooth and sleek. The drop shadows look great, and the skin has a very consistant look. Even the color picker and presets add flavor to this skin. The main reason Tiburon got a 5 in this catagory was because of the chassis and wallpaper skinning options. If it weren't for that, I would have had to give a 4, due to the unskinned righ-click menu, half skinned skin browser, and unskinned imagestyles in the playlist. Although these are just small things, I still believe they are worth skinning to truly have a complete skin. Did I say the word skin enough times?
Rating: 5 / 5
Code & Stability:
As with all his work, Tiburon has been thourougly tested, and has no real bugs that I found. Many users contributed in testing this skin, and it shows in it's rock solid performance.
Rating: 5 / 5
Edge & Whiz-bang factors:
If I could, I'd give Tiburon a 10000 in this catagory. The playlist is like nothing ever seen before. Upon launch, the Playlist slides from the middle of the screen to the left, leaving just a small tab visible. Upon clicking this tab, the playlist slides back out from the left of the screen, and then back in when you're finished. The slideshow is also a great little feature. If you change all 4 background images in your Tiburon interface folder, the skin will rotate through them as the songs play. The only thing I would have liked to have seen are some nice transitions between the screens, a la the EQ transition in Elyse.
Rating: 5 / 5
Overall & Summary:
Status really out did himself with this skin. Tiburon is really a groundbreaking skin. With an easy to use interface for beginners, and super customizable options for veteran, this skin will appeal to everyone. Give it a try. If you don't like it, Jacoby will give you your money back.

I have always loved sonique, but now, for the first time, I have solid reason to use it.

| | dtevol's comments at 9:57am, 20th Nov 2003 | | This skin ha everything that I need in a skin. A functional playlist that stands on its own (with the volume and progress control), a minimode that is unobtrusive and can still display my fav vis (RabbitHole) and ultimately, the ability to customize it so that it can fit any desktop color scheme. Congrats to Status! You're da man now dogg!!!!

The unskined right click menu was intentional to keep it consistant, as I understand it. Same for the interface browser.
In conclusion, if Jacoby had money to give, he'd be much happier than he currently is.
also, I really like the layout and font of the LCD

| | Rhonnysparks's comments at 3:11am, 26th Nov 2003 | Rating: 10 | Status f*ckin nice interface, it's so good I'm thinking about upgrading to XP. Two questions: is there a 9x vs planned? And when will we be able to skin it?
| | Slaine's comments at 6:39am, 26th Nov 2003 | | from what i understand there are no plans for a 98 version of this skin
| | status's comments at 12:07pm, 26th Nov 2003 | | I'm sorry, but I won't be porting S2 skins to Windows 9X. The Win98 platform is already pushing seven years old, and was simply an upgrade to an OS that's literally as old as the web itself. Systems running 98 also tend to lack power, so just about all of the 'niceness' would have to be trimmed back or removed.
9X versions of my stuff would just sell you, Sonique, and the skin short. It's a damn shame Microsoft doesn't support their old software with proper upgrades, because I hate having to make a decision like this.
If you're a diehard Win98 user though, I would encourage you to have a look at my Winamp 2 work, it's not as pretty as Sonique but it's a reliable 9X friendly app.
